Environmental Education for 1,700 Children, Focusing on Biodiversity and Water Protection

HELLENiQ ENERGY continues to invest in environmental education for the younger generation by implementing experiential environmental programmes across six municipalities in the Thriasio Plain and Western Thessaloniki. Delivered in partnership with environmental organisations, the initiatives introduced children to key concepts relating to nature conservation, with a particular focus on biodiversity, water resources and marine life.

Approximately 1,700 preschool and primary school children from a total of 26 schools participated in the experiential environmental education programmes implemented once again this year by HELLENiQ ENERGY, in partnership with Agoni Grammi Gonimi, The Bee Camp, MIO-ECSDE and Greek Eco Project.

As an active and responsible member of society, HELLENiQ ENERGY has a long-standing commitment to implementing environmental information and awareness programmes for the younger generation. Particular emphasis is placed on the municipalities of Western Attica and Western Thessaloniki, where the Company operates, further strengthening its established, long-term relationships with local communities.

Through strategic partnerships with environmental organisations, local authorities and the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis, HELLENiQ ENERGY develops initiatives that foster environmental awareness among children and contribute to building more resilient and sustainable cities.

This year’s initiatives took place during May and June across six municipalities and included educational workshops focusing on biodiversity, the water cycle and the protection of marine ecosystems. Through their experiential and participatory approach, the programmes gave children the opportunity to explore and understand fundamental concepts of environmental protection through outdoor activities, interactive workshops and creative learning experiences.

In this way, the programmes strengthened children’s environmental awareness and helped them develop a more meaningful relationship with the natural environment through learning and personal experience.

Three Themes Focusing on Nature, Water and Marine Life

The educational initiatives were developed around three principal themes, with the contribution of specialised environmental organisations:

  • The Bee Camp highlighted the vital role played by bees and other pollinators in preserving biodiversity, as well as their contribution to the balance and effective functioning of ecosystems.
  • MIO-ECSDE, the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development, focused on the value of water resources and highlighted the importance of their responsible management and protection.
  • Greek Eco Project introduced children to the richness of marine biodiversity, raising awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving marine ecosystems.
