HELLENiQ ENERGY has created a modern, multi-purpose centre in the heart of Athens to support and empower women in vulnerable circumstances, in partnership with Médecins du Monde Greece.
The “Athina” Women’s Empowerment Centre, located within the Médecins du Monde Open Polyclinic, will operate throughout the year, providing a safe and supportive environment for more than 250 women annually.
Through educational workshops, health promotion initiatives, and professional and social counselling services, the Centre aims to help participants develop new skills, strengthen their connection with the labour market and raise their awareness of their rights and gender equality.
Dozens of HELLENiQ ENERGY volunteers played an instrumental role in upgrading and refurbishing the premises, helping to create a functional, welcoming and supportive environment.
The project forms part of HELLENiQ ENERGY’s Corporate Responsibility strategy to promote equality, inclusion and women’s empowerment through targeted initiatives that deliver tangible social impact.
Complementary Initiatives in Thessaloniki and Komotini
At the same time, HELLENiQ ENERGY is implementing targeted initiatives in other parts of Greece this year, in partnership with the Greek Association of Women Entrepreneurs (SEGE).
In Thessaloniki, the Company is supporting a training programme on food hygiene and safety for women volunteers working at the social welfare facilities operated by the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis. In Komotini, it is supporting educational workshops designed to help women develop essential digital and professional skills.
A Long-Standing Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
In recent years, HELLENiQ ENERGY has developed a coherent and steadily expanding programme of initiatives to support women in vulnerable circumstances. These interventions address both essential protection needs and the development of skills and employment opportunities.
In this context, the Company has contributed, among other initiatives, to upgrading and supporting accommodation and assistance facilities, including the “Ramona” shelter operated by Médecins du Monde Greece. It has also supported key regional facilities, such as the Shelter for Women Survivors of Violence in Komotini.
In parallel, through partnerships with the Hellenic Red Cross and the Irida Women’s Centre, HELLENiQ ENERGY has helped create and upgrade spaces dedicated to protection, empowerment and learning, which have supported thousands of women and their children in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Particular emphasis is also placed on skills development and professional advancement through initiatives such as WEHub in Western Thessaloniki. Within a relatively short period of operation, WEHub has supported more than 1,000 women by providing training and counselling services, as well as a modern space for collaboration and creative activities.
