Prioritising support for the communities in the areas where it operates, HELLENiQ ENERGY once again carried out Christmas community support initiatives across the Thriasio Plain, Western Thessaloniki and Kozani, helping approximately 500 families enjoy a festive meal.
The initiatives form part of the Support Programme for Social Welfare Organisations in Neighbouring Municipalities, a comprehensive, long-term programme implemented by the Group since 2012, in close cooperation with local authorities and local Metropolises of the Greek Orthodox Church. Through the Programme, HELLENiQ ENERGY responds to the needs of local communities and makes a meaningful, consistent and long-term contribution towards meeting essential food needs.
As part of this year’s Christmas initiatives, HELLENiQ ENERGY supported the community meal programmes run by the Churches of Agios Georgios in Elefsina and Agios Athanasios in Evosmos, as well as the social welfare services of the Municipality of Kozani. At the same time, HELLENiQ ENERGY employees volunteered to help prepare, portion and distribute meals, providing hands-on support for the operation of these services in cooperation with the Holy Metropolises of Megara and Salamina and of Neapolis and Stavroupolis.
Since the launch of the Support Programme for Social Welfare Organisations in Neighbouring Municipalities, more than 1,600 tonnes of food have been distributed, while approximately 1,700 families receive support each month across the Thriasio Plain, Western Thessaloniki and Kozani. The Christmas initiatives complement the Programme’s ongoing activities, strengthening the Group’s presence and contribution to local communities during periods of increased need.
In recent years, HELLENiQ ENERGY’s community support initiatives under the Programme have continued to expand and evolve, addressing the needs of social welfare organisations in neighbouring municipalities across Western Thessaloniki, the Thriasio Plain and Kozani.
At Christmas 2023, approximately 500 families received support through community meal programmes and social welfare organisations, with eight tonnes of food distributed. In 2024, food and festive treats were provided for the Christmas tables of a further 500 families, along with clothing and footwear for approximately 130 children from families supported by the community meal programmes of the Churches of Agios Athanasios in Evosmos and Agios Georgios in Elefsina.
In recent years in particular, growing emphasis has been placed on the consistent voluntary participation of Group employees, who support local social welfare organisations throughout the year.
